After the conference they organized in the European Parliament, with the support of Viviane Reding, former Vice President of the European Commission and member of the European Parliament, the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity call for the relaunch of Europe for culture and creativity.<\/p>\n
After the vote for Brexit, popular mistrust of the European Union and the resurgence of nationalism, ECCD are convinced that European culture and creation is the glue that is lacking today for peuple to make sense of the European project and to give strength and coherence.<\/p>\n
Therefore, during the discussions that brought together creators, professionals and political and European officials, CEDC recales three major ambitions that Europe should better defend and support:
\n– The defense of an author\u2019s right that guarantees a high level of financing of cultural works, ensures a fair remuneration for creators and performers and protects cultural works;
\n– The regulation of the digital economy to involve new Internet players, platforms and services in the financing, distribution and exhibition of European Creative works
\n– The exclusion of the widest possible range of audiovisual and cultural services in any trade negotiations undertaken by the European Union<\/p>\n
It is in this spirit that the European Coalitions will be active while the reform of Copyright package is being considered by the European Parliament and the European Council.<\/p>\n
Given that cultural diversity must be defended in the digital era, they challenge European leaders to ensure that the reform of copyright law does not weaken the position of European creators and does not question the territoriality of rights which guarantee the financing of creative works in all their diversity.<\/p>\n
Similarly, the revision of the directive on audiovisual media services on demand offers a unique opportunity to broaden choice and strengthen the position of European Audiovisual works in the offers proposed to the European public.<\/p>\n
